This drift is three feet high!!!!

Yes, sadly, it's true. It's a winter wonderland of sorts up here in Valparaiso, Indiana.  My very first winter storm since transplanting up North.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided to wreak havoc all over the Midwest, so my first storm is some earthly force to be reckoned with.  My evening earlier was spent studying for one of my finals tomorrow (Civil Procedure, shoot me now), and I walked out of my friend's apartment only to find my beautiful black car covered in snow. Ok, no big deal. What was a big deal was the sneaky sneaky snow drift that I didn't see. Needless to say, one step I'm only barely ankle deep in snow, the next step, I'm up to my knees in snow. So, after waltzing with the snow drift, my two wonderful friends and I dug out  my car and my friend's. I'm pretty sure it took us longer to dig out our cars and scrape ice than it did to actually drive home, even going no faster than 15 mph. Once home, I was welcomed by yet another surprise of the three feet high snow drift placed strategically in front of my door. Excellent.

Why am I informing you of my wimpiness towards snow? Snow boots! Yet again, they saved my life.
I also told you because it was an extremely interesting experience, one that definitely needed to be documented as my life begins up here in Valpo.

I feel like I am becoming more and more accustomed to life in the Midwest.  I feel somewhat prepared for the verrrrry low temperatures and massive amounts of snow (although, according to my friends who have grown up here, this is nothing. Oh yay. Can't wait. My party flags are flying.).  Snow boots? Definite check!! Earmuffs? Check! Extensive scarf collection? Check! Waterproof leather gloves with sheepskin? Check! Sub-zero goose down coat? Check! (Thanks teeter!) Collection of ice scrapers, squeegees, and brushes? Check!

So, armed and ready with my winter gear, I'm going to dominate the Midwest winter!
Hopefully.
